Boomerangs were used by prehistoric peoples all over the world

I doubt that very much.

I'm not entirely sure about that myself.

They're still an awesome item.

What do you think the most useless item is? Magic armor in WW-never used. Lips sealed

The Claim Check. Well OK, you need it to get the Biggoron's Sword but then it lingers around in your inventory for the rest of the game, useless. Although, only if you complete the Biggoron's sword sidequest.

I used the upgraded one a few times

The mirror shield in MC, though - that's just pointless

You don't even get it until you've finished the game - and by then, you'll always have something else equipped

Yes, which is why I was surprised when I got the Mirror Shield before beating WW because MC was my first Zelda game.

Mirror Shield usually is useful though, just not in Minish Cap.

I didn't even know you could upgrade your shield in PH.
