Title: SSBB has now been released in Europe - thoughts?
Post by: OL1V3R on June 27, 2008, 12:04:34 pm
I bought Smash Bros Brawl today and it is excellent. It's got a lot of features not seen in Melee and so many new characters. Although so far, I'm only about 3% through the Subspace Emissary and I've completed Classic mode with only 4 characters, it's all good.

If you happened to pick up Smash Bros Brawl today, what do you think of it?

3:30-4:00, Apers, NX and I hooked it up to the S19 projector! BRILLIANT!!!

If only you'd shown up, OLL13!

I didn't manage to unlock Ness.

I've finished the Sea of Clouds in Subspace Emissary and built my Tourian stage. I've also been practising with two of my mains (mains are in sig).

Actually, I'm not jealous at all. I have a Wii Component Cable and a VGA Box that allows me to play the Nintendo Wii on a TFT monitor in Enhanced Definition! So it looks awesome on my monitor (I'll post a pic soon). ;D But it won't show Virtual Console or Gamecube games. :( But now that Brawl is out, that problem is solved! So there.

I have tried the online multiplayer over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but I was a bit disappointed at the lag; in a game like SSBB, timing is very important. So I may consider getting a (hopefully) cheap USB LAN adapter, so that the internet connection to my Wii is a lot faster, more reliable, and less likely to disconnect.

So, HYPNOTOAD, do you have the game?

Everyone is having problems with the lag by the sound of it.

I've been playing this game too much. I'm already two hours into the SSE.

I have unlocked:
Captain Falcon
Marth

Hopefully Ness and Luigi will be unlocked soon as I've seen where their trophies are.

You think you've been playing too much? I've completed 21% of the SSE and I've unlocked Luigi, Marth, Sonic and Captain Falcon. So far, I've spent about 9 hours playing the game altogether.

I'm going to wait until I can get it cheap, then I'll get it

BTW, I might be hooking it up to the projector every Wed. 3-4 - you should show up

Good luck...

I may consider it, but does that mean I have to wear uniform?

I've actually completed 25% of SSE.

How did you get Sonic so early?

We have Ness now. Hopefully Luigi will be soon.

How did you get Sonic so early?

I'm not exactly sure. I was playing through Classic mode as each character and I saw Sonic as a challenger when I played as Diddy Kong. It must be because he was my tenth character.

By the way TheAPERSON, which difficulty are you playing on in SSE and Classic? I'm playing on Normal.

Oh, and another thing, there are some very good newcomers in there. Pit is my favourite - I can easily see why you like Meta Knight and Ike! Diddy Kong is quite good as well.

I hope to use Snake and Lucario as well, but we don't have them yet.

I've now beaten Galleom in SSE (on Normal) and have two parties of five, as well as other characters which are still in pairs.

It takes ages to unlock Ness and Luigi in SSE so your better off doing other modes to unlock them.

I also felt Galleom was long overdue. The last boss was Porky which was ages ago. Perhaps that's why you fight him twice.

It's out in Australia too. Mum rented it for me, and I should be getting my copy as soon as she pays off the layby. I'll be waiting awhile though. The only problem with Brawl, is the fact that it's supposed to be played with friends. And the SSE is really boring. I have to do Brawls by myself, against COM players as I have no friends to play against.

Got all chars, all stages, over 500 stickers, a lot of CDs, SSE 98% complete, need your friend codes.

That would be very tricky since I've already made friends.

And even if didn't, I'd have my brother to play with, and I enjoy the SSE.

If you get the online, you can do it with other random people, and that's alright.

DarkAce, you have me beat only in the stickers category. I've unlocked all chars and stages, beat SSE twice, have two friend codes, and finally beat 100-man brawl (;D).

Well I reached the last level of SSE, The Great Maze. It's unlike all the other levels.

A good method in Melee is to use Donkey Kong and use his Down B attack. I'm not sure whether that still works in Brawl though.

The Great Maze isn't that hard. You're just running around trying to kill all of the bosses and shadow-character people. Once you find the four main bases, it shows you where all of the people you need to kill are.

Now, for 100-Man Brawl.

It probably still works pretty well for DK, but I didn't use him. Half of Ike's attacks are OHKO's for all the people in 100-Man Brawl. His Up-A is particularly effective.

The Ray Gun is pretty effective, the gun you can charge doesn't take much of a charge at all, and the firecracker is pwnage.

If you get the fan, don't regard it as useless, pick it up and chuck it for an OHKO. There's a way to throw it up at the spawn point so it kills them as soon as they appear, but I never mastered that.

The beam sword is one of the best weapons for anyone other than Ike, who doubles it up with a sword smash that usually misses.

If you get the fireball thing, give it a couple of good whacks and chuck it at someone. Green shells are also pretty good.

Be careful of the smart bombs and the bob-ombs. You usually just blow yourself up.

Be careful where you throw the pinball bumper things or you might ricochet yourself off-screen.

Assist trophies are probably the single most useful item you can get, but pokeballs are usually pretty good too.

Above all else, don't waste time. Ignore fire flowers and stuff like that. I don't know if you can get baseball bats, but don't use them besides throwing them. Don't go after stickers unless they're right next to you.

NXtreme cleared 100-Man Brawl on my console.

Interestingly, you unlock Falco in the same way in both Melee and Brawl.

100 man brawl was easy. just use metaknight and his tornado, drill rush and shuttle loop attacks. if you think you're up to it, throw a smart bomb at someone on the other side of the stage. also another thing about metaknight is that you can smash opponents into the air and then meet them in the air as they fall down and smash them up into the air again until they die

15-Minute Brawl would be harder than 100-Man Brawl though. It was hard in Melee and took me ages to clear.

I have a Wireless Router, it just doesn't work. I might consider Wi-Fi USB connector.
