Title: 2D or 3D Metroid games
Post by: TheAPERSON on June 18, 2008, 05:47:41 am
Simple question, do you prefer 2D or 3D Metroid games?

And the winner is - HYPNOTOAD -

Not that simple, the 3D ones vary: Prime Hunters is more "FPS" than the others

I like Hunters the most, but Zero Mission is also fun... the prime trilogy I haven't tried much

Have to say 3D.
2D is fun but hard and really short.....the 3D games are longer, easier and have much better stories. They immerse you in the game so much more. The biggest thing I have to say is the scan visor. I love that thing so much! Downloading useless but cool info is so satisfying....

Scanning does add something of a "collect 'em all" element, come to think of it

In every single Prime game I've played I've gotten 99% scans. Every time! Always a 1 time scan I miss....
Curse you Ram War Wasps!
Curse you Chyklings!

I would say 3D. The 2D Metroid games were hard on my eyes because of the sprites and the way some of them were colored. The 3D games added more atmosphere, excitement, and the creations of the creatures just made eveything to seem to come to life. I definently prefer 3D. :)

I think I prefer 3D as well though I wouldn't mind seeing another 2D game.

2d. The 3d games are great, but it's hard to do much with the Screw Attack, which is one of my favorite aspects of the game. I hate not being able to see what's behind me. Also, you only get 2 jumps; space jump doesn't do much.

I think they added the screw attack into MP2 because fans were annoyed that it wasn't in MP.

It was cool but not very useful and hard to handle. Is it in MP3?

Yes, and it's been improved.

I've never passed a 2D Metroid game, but I prefer them.

I don't know yet. Metroid Prime Hunters was fairly easy to play but Metroid Prime 3 is just frustrating. I can't seem to figure out what to do next, and I end up going in the same spots over and over again. I'm only 11% in the game and I've had the game since Christmas! I haven't played it that much, and when I do, it just frustrates me.

Is Metroid Prime 3 supposed to be a lot harder than Hunters?

MP3 is more of a tradional 3D Metroid game. Personally, I think MP3 is better than Hunters because of this. Although Hypermode difficulty is incredibly hard.

Oh, and the percentage next to you file indicates the amount of items you have, not how far through the game you are.

I have yet to go through on hypermode, but it is an amazing game. I though Hunters was really good though....

Hunters is really good but it's not what I would call a traditional Metroid game as it's more of an FPS. Still great in multiplayer though.

Hunters needs more varied bosses

The game just has the same two repeated ad nausium

The Home Console Prime games have more variety of bosses. Of the trilogy, MP2 has the hardest bosses. Spider Guardian can be considered one of the hardest bosses ever.

I beat him on second try! Yay!
Only on normal though....

Emperor Ing is tricky as well.

Not with the Annihilator Beam. I thought he was easy enough, though maybe I've gotten better at Metroid games. When I first started playing them, I died about 6 times on Meta-Ridley.

On hard mode, the first form creams me which makes it difficult to do the last form. Seeker Missiles are too hard to aim at the tentacles so I just use missiles.

Ridley in MZM: EVIL

I still haven't beaten him on normal

Here's a decent strategy: http://www.metroid2002.com/0/boss_tricks_ridley.php (http://www.metroid2002.com/0/boss_tricks_ridley.php)

I actually killed him on a 15% normal run once using this strategy. It took about 50 tries, but still.....

The movie doesn't work on my PC for some reason. There might be something up with the site. Could you describe the trick?

Stay under his back claws as much as possible. His tail and front claws are dangerous, but his back claws are harmless. Even when he drops down to grab you, you can't get hurt as long as you stay directly underneath his back claws.

If I ever play through Metroid Zero Mission again then I'll remember that trick. Ridley's easy anyway though, well, once you start shooting upwards.

^Exactly! I thought he was pimps......maybe Hypno needs more practice ;)

Well, I played on Normal straight away, and once I figured out how to beat him I did. Still died a few times on Hard but beat him eventually.

Has anyone here done 9% on Hard in MZM? I've seen vids of people doing various boss fights and they always make it look so easy....

I did 100% on Hard, but not 9%.

Took me a while to kill Mecha Ridley on Hard mode (I saved my Super Missiles for actually damaging him).

I could barely manage it doing a normal run on hard.....

The metroid sequence is always what kills me. And Mother Brain does a pretty good job of it, too. But I didn't really have a problem with Mecha Ridley, surprisingly enough, though he's incredibly difficult without the Screw Attack (I did a 15% normal, once).
