Title: Favourite Zelda equippable item
Post by: Hypnotoad on June 17, 2008, 01:05:37 pm
And the winner is - HYPNOTOAD -

OK, this is similar to the "favourite dungeon" thread: you state your favourite equippable item from the Zelda series, and the game it is in - often the same item differs between episodes

You then explain why it is your favourite piece of kit

eg. "I like the golden bee from LTTP, because it can be released to attack enemies and then recaptured"

Fire rod from FSA. So fun to burn enemies. ;)
Also the double Claw-shot from TP was awesome...made you feel like spiderman.
And what adventurer is complete without his trusty grappling hook? It was such an Indiana Jones item.

Overall though my favourite and most used item is the bow. So useful and essential.....and picking off enemies before they even see you is so satisfying.... :D

Double Clawshot is my favourite, as is every other Hookshot.

The bow is brilliant - and really shines in MM, where the dungeon items are different types of arrows

But my favourite item has to be the hookshot as used in phantom hourglass - it doesn't let you swing like in WW, but it works like a hookshot. Also, the ability to stretch it between posts and use it as a tightrope or slingshot: genius!

Grappling Hook PH is included in all Hookshots for me.

Oh I forgot the Ocarina is the best ever item! Especially in MM... All those different instruments were so cool! (Deku horn the best ;) )
Some of the songs were really good....Saria's song and Zelda's lullaby my favourite

how do you get the golden bee?

Yuo can buy it in the village in Dark World. It goes in a bottle but I never knew what it was for...until now

Actually, I dont know what the golden bee is for either. Is it for a side quest?

Like I said you buy it in the shop in the Dark World village... It does nothing but attack enemies

So it's useless then?

So it's useless then?

But very, very cool. And brave. How many small insects do you know that would attack Gannon?

That's something good to save it for then.

Technically, the golden bee IS a sidequest - the shopkeeper won't sell them unless you bring him one (I won't tell you where)

It has to be one of my favourite items

Ashamed to say that Twilight Princess is the only Zelda I ever played. :-[

Loved it.

Double Clawshot.

Shame I have no idea where to find it then. :(

Please tell me where to find one!

Ask the wise and renowned Hypnotoad
He seems to know the most about it...

You know where you get the ice rod?

It is in an adjoining cave

Once you uncover it (which I will leave to you), you can catch it with the net

Make sure you have an empty bottle!

I would really advise getting it - it's very handy against the moth boss in particular (don't use it before unlocking it in the shop)

ah.. well i'm at the start of ganons tower. and i haven't been on for ages so i can't remember which one was the moth boss. just say the dungeon its in

I started a new file a while ago and I'm stuck on the moth boss. It's the boss of Skull Woods Palace.

The boomberang. In any of the games. The Gale Boomberang was really annoying though, as my aiming with it was terrible. And for those who don't know, boomberangs are actually used by Aboriginies. I should know, as I live in Australia and am part Aboriginal. I wonder why Nintendo decided to make Link use a boomberang...

Boomerangs were used by prehistoric peoples all over the world

...although most primitive ones didn't come back

They developed from clubs into an early throwing weapon

I own a boomerang! I'm quite good as well.....apart from it's dangerous tendacy to come back at 50 miles an hour at neck height. :o

The weirdest item ever is the mole mitts. Cool but weird.

Its cooler than the shovel though.

MC items were interesting and I'd like some of them to appear again, like the Gust Jar.

I thought the same thing. Unlike other Zelda games, you have no clue what you're getting next. Reminded me of LttP, you didn't know then either. Sucking up an enemy for the first time and shooting him at another was so cool. ;D

Maybe it was a way for Kirby elements to appear in Zelda, as the other way round has been done.

I own one as well
It's kinda weird, it has three prongs
It keeps getting treed

I never knew you owned a boomerang.

Me neither! :o

Oh, wait...I don't know anything else about you...heh heh

I doubt that very much.

I'm not entirely sure about that myself.

I think only the aborigines had ones that come back, though

Title: Re: Favourite Zelda equippable item

They're still an awesome item.

What do you think the most useless item is? Magic armor in WW-never used. :-X

The spell medallion in LTTP

I used ether a coupla times to show up invisible platforms, but that was it

The Claim Check. Well OK, you need it to get the Biggoron's Sword but then it lingers around in your inventory for the rest of the game, useless. Although, only if you complete the Biggoron's sword sidequest.

OOT ice arrows

Never used at all

They have their moment in MM though

The Shield in PH.

Seriously, I never had to use it.

Title: Re: Favourite Zelda equippable item
Post by: Hypnotoad on July 10, 2008, 11:45:11 am
I used the upgraded one a few times

The mirror shield in MC, though - that's just pointless

You don't even get it until you've finished the game - and by then, you'll always have something else equipped

Title: Re: Favourite Zelda equippable item
Post by: TheAPERSON on July 11, 2008, 03:46:53 pm
Yes, which is why I was surprised when I got the Mirror Shield before beating WW because MC was my first Zelda game.

Use a capital A for Aborigines please.

Mirror Shield usually is useful though, just not in Minish Cap.

Title: Re: Favourite Zelda equippable item

That's why I specified in MC

I used the upgraded one a few times

I didn't even know you could upgrade your shield in PH.

Collect enough blue gems and you can upgrade it twice

Oh that. I thought you meant getting a new shield, not just making the first one better.

I stuck with the Fire sword when playing through the game.
