Title: Monty Python
Post by: Leonri on June 17, 2008, 09:36:21 am
You knew it was coming folks...a thread dedicated to the all time comedy greats Monty Python!
To get this started lets begin with an obvious one. What's your favourite sketch? So many to choose from....Dead Parrot, Lumberjack Song, Fish-slapping Dance, Nudge-Nudge and of course The Upper Class Twit of the Year.

Mine has to be Cheese-shop....no wait it's definately The Killer Joke....or is it Spam? Never mind there's just too many! :D  Comments please! ( I know! It's Life and Death Struggles!)

Here's one of my favourite sketches.

I was watching whole episodes on Youtube but I stopped after episode 11. I don't know why

Here's another of my favourites

It's quite short that sketch though.

The Parrot Sketch is great.

Life and Death Struggles is just too funny...

"And here we see a pantomime princess Margaret engaged in a life and death struggle with a breakfast. Oh she has got out her harpoon and shot it as it ran by. Right in the toast!"  <said in ridiculous French accent>

Spongebob: "The next item on the list: show my best friend squidward to everyone in town - in a salmon suit!"

Squidward: "You're going to be wearing a salmon suit?"

Spongebob: "Haaaaaaaaaaa! Don't be silly!"

Don't ask me how, I don't know!

Re Monty Python this time, I know a guy that's A LOT like the guy in the "nudge nudge, wink wink" sketch! Whenever any one says anything, he shouts "waay!" and leaves us to figure out what the innuendo was in what we'd just said

Pfft yeah. I'll never look at apple pie, doilies, George Bush or Sweden the same way....

Hillariously silly.
Calling Monty Python "silly" is like calling fish "wet".

Monty Python is brilliant! I saw some of it at my cousin's house.

Funny sketches include the killer joke, the accident sketch, and of course, the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Some funny quotes:

(part of a spoof BBC TV announcement)

"It's now 5 past 6, and it won't be long until 6 past 6."
"Tomorrow morning it will be 9:20, and we'll be with you just in time for 10:33."
"Those of you who missed Friday's programme at 9:45 can catch it again this Friday at quarter to ten."

TheAPERSON, the Ministry of Silly Walks video doesn't seem to be working. You'll need to swap it for another video of the same sketch.

I've done that now.

Please remove the luggage from the racks above your heads and place them on the other side of the aircraft.

That's a great sketch.

It goes on too long though... it wears thin before it's even over

Annoying how a lot of Monty Python scetches do that

Nah, I like that one.

The I spy idea in the sky was silly.

4 minutes? Long? Hahhahah.....Obviously you've never seen the Tale of Happy Valley. Nearly 15 minutes of pure Python.

The longest sketch I've seen is Man turns into Scotsman.

Title: Re: Monty Python
Post by: Leonri on June 29, 2008, 08:06:39 am
How long?

Title: Re: Monty Python
Post by: TheAPERSON on June 29, 2008, 08:13:52 am
It lasted for the majority of the 30 minute episode.

Title: Re: Monty Python

The film industry one - that went on for ages

Though admittedly it switches from the film review scetch to the filmmaking one

Well, sketches are definately shorter these days.

Not only the sketches in the shows are funny, but also those cartoons.

Here's an example - Conrad Poohs and his Dancing Teeth:

That's Terry Giliam's work. I don't really enjoy it as much as the rest of the Python sketches.
Giliam's a very, very weird person.

Title: Re: Monty Python

It's still very silly though. I like the way the end links into the next sketch.

Good point. I was watching entire episodes up until episode 11 when I stopped. So in that case you would have definately seen more.

The animated bits just aren't funny

They're funny in a wierd way, but that's about it.

They might not be so funny, but they are memorable. My favourite animation bit involved the giant foot!

Title: Re: Monty Python

That appears in the title sequence so that's obviously going to be funny.

Title: Re: Monty Python
Post by: Hypnotoad on July 09, 2008, 02:38:21 pm
It's great

The title's so mad, so crammed with insanity, then the foot just comes down and ends it all

Like an unstoppable final word

And it's kinda random too  ;D

It really sums up the show.
